While you're not doing anything, pour a cold one and think about this?
Should Josh Hamilton – you know his story with drugs and alcohol – play for a team nicknamed the Brewers? In a city known for, you know, making beer?
John Heyman reported yesterday the Milwaukee Brewers are seriously considered making a run at the free-agent outfielder.
Heyman writes:
"The Brewers believe Milwaukee is a viable market for Hamilton, and it doesn't hurt that their hitting coach is Johnny Narron, who is very close to Hamilton from their days together in Cincinnati and Texas. Narron was Hamilton's original "life coach'' with the Reds and Rangers. In Texas, he generally thrived and is credited for having only two relapses."
Life coach. That's the guy who shadows Hamilton, making sure the slugger doesn't find his way into a bar, or say, hole himself up in some crack house.
Heyman also reported in June that life coaches the Rangers assigned to Hamilton claimed it was a "very demanding job" keeping him clean.
Now, I'm, of course, not suggesting that Hamilton may be tempted to go on a drinking binge each night after games simply because he plays with a team whose name is associated with beer. That would be silly.
However, do you really want to tempt fate by bringing Hamilton to a city, with its rich brewing history, often called the beer capital of the world?
Sip on that for a moment.
