Go Nuts, Cards Fans. Go Nuts
By now, you’ve probably seen video – hey, maybe you saw it live – of the “rally squirrel” that darted across home plate at Busch Stadium a few nights ago, milliseconds after Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt delivered a pitch.
Home plate umpire Angel Hernandez seemingly distracted by the rodent, called the pitch a ball. It was a bit inside, but that wasn’t the Oswaltr’s beef. He wanted a do over. No such luck. Hernandez let the ball call stand. I’m rooting for the Cardinals, so I totally agree.
Rally squirrel has become a popular figure with Cardinals fans. The little fella even has his own Twitter page, with, no doubt, more followers than I have.
However, not everyone is amused. The folks in charge of grounds keeping at the ballpark want the squirrel out of there, and have set up what they call “humane” traps. Sounds like a bit if a Caddyshack situation to me.
